Go Team!

I’m not a joiner, in any sense of the word. I don’t know one end of a dovetail joint from the other and I’ve never been part of a crowd bigger than my own teddy bear’s picnic. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a loner. I love people as much as the next guy: as long as the next guy stays over there, quite far away, no, a bit further than that please…

Okay, so I’m probably harking back to old Paula a little here. Timid, clumsy, introverted: it’s a bit difficult to join a team with such impressive qualities in your arsenal. And it wasn’t the rest of the kids’ fault: after all, it’s hard to make friends with a shadow. Now though, with sixteen sports under my (much shorter) belt, it should be easier to just rock up to the nearest party and get it the hell started. But, as an adult, it can be hard even finding a team to join, unless you’re adequately sporty or a dab hand at safe-cracking. I’m neither.

So it came as much as a surprise to me as to the rest of my picnic that I’ve finally been accepted into a real team – and it’s a good ‘un!

Team 14 is the official blogging squad of Glasgow 2014, covering all things Games, Glasgow, and, well, 2014. Culture, photography, fashion and events – it’ll all be in there, showcasing the XX Commonwealth Games to the world from the ground up, the top down and including all the wobbly bits in between. As part of a wonderfully eclectic bunch of bloggers from around the UK, I’ll be chipping in my two bob’s worth on the topics of Sport and the Queen’s Baton Relay. So I know nothing about either; I’ve done more with less over the past eighteen months. I mean, have you read my post on wrestling?

We don’t have away kits, there’s no jaunty mascot, and we’ll probably never be on the same field together. But we’re a team, and I’m part of it, and that’s a real first for me.

Paula.
